Second cruising day of the “Liguria Project”, with the intent to sail from East to West along the coast of Liguria, from Bocca di Magra to Bordighera, on MIRA, a homemade dinghy, class Goat Island Skiff.
We will add more of Enrico’s videos of this trip over the next few weeks.
- Day 1 – Bocca di Magra – Levanto
- Day 2 – Levanto – Sestri Levante
- Day 3 – Sestri Levante – Camogli
- Day4 – Camogli – Genova
- Day5 – Genova – Varazze
Forbidding Coast for a simple sail and oar boat.
We picked the boat up from where we left it last time.
This is an unfriendly stretch of coast. Cliffs and limited harbours. It is overcast with a threatening sky. At least it is downwind.
Wind picks up and reef
The light wind at the beginning builds and turns offshore. Should be smooth but the strength comes up and makes it a choppy ride. We reef.
Reefing the Goat Island Skiff needs the crew to sit in the back part of the boat. On small boats don’t imagine you can do a “jiffy reef”.
Just dump the sail in the cockpit, fix in the reefs then hoist the sail again.
Sailing is fast and requires concentration so not much chance to video.
Change to oar power for entry to harbour and finally pull up on the beach.
We leave the boat at a local club to wait for the next section and catch a train to pick up the car we left at Bocca di Magra.
Our aim is to return next week to continue.
